National Service Scheme (NSS) has emerged as a powerful and dynamic youth movement in the country. The NSS is acting as a catalyst to build up the right way of leadership in an institution. The motto of NSS “Not Me, But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s points of view and also show consideration to ‘other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well reflected in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.
The College has two NSS units one under the CUSAT and other affiliated to KTU. The NSS unit of our college, with 200 volunteers, plays an active role in shaping our student humane and responsible citizens. The overall aim of NSS is personality development of students through community service. We conduct special camping programme of seven days duration in adopted places and it provides unique opportunities to students for group living, The various activities of the unit include blood donation, planting of trees, conducting legal awareness classes, personality development programmes, surveys for adopted village, cleaning and other constructive activities.
A rural development programme broadly focusing upon the development in the villages which includes social development, cultural development and spread motivation among the people on social mobilization of the village community. The programme was launched by the Honorable Prime Minister of India Sri. NarendraModi on the birth anniversary of Dr.Jayaprakash Narayan, on 11 October 2014.The distinct feature of this Yojana is that it is (a) demand driven, (b) inspired by society , (c) based on people’s participation. NSS Technical Cell CE Perumon Unit 539 has been appointed by AICTE and NSS technical cell Kerala for conducting survey and technological intervention with PanayamGramapanchayath.
Preliminary survey named ‘Developed Village – Developed Nation’ has been already conducted and uploaded to AICTE by NSS Volunteer Secretary Mr.Ajmal N. S5 ME and now NSS tech. cell CE Perumon has prepared a DPR (detailed project report) to conduct a ‘VIKASANA’ seminar along with Panayam Gramapanchayath, Member of the parliament and others. After the seminar technological aid will be provided for the same.

All the NSS Volunteers of College of Engineering Perumon actively participated in the flood relief activities despite of all circumstances. Everyone took part in different activities like collection of materials, packing, loading, visiting relief camps, volunteering etc. Different committees were formed with immediate effect in order to make the flood relief campaign of our unit efficient. The timely coordination of the program officers made the volunteers inspired and motivated to do all those possible helps which they can do for the victims.
